Regular massage benefits - beyond pampering!
A quick focus on quality of life director - the nervous system

With our lives being so full and diverse, it is so important to make time not to pamper ourselves (although Im not knocking that!)
but to renew and rebalance so that we can live a quality life that is happy and fulfilling - far beyond just keeping up with the daily demands.
The central nervous system is the project manager of the body; sending messages from the brain to every department - nerves, muscles, organs, everywhere. The role of the nervous system is to sense changes and adapt the body to its ever changing environment. Emotional, physical and chemical stress are all things that the nervous system is highly qualified to work with, but when more than can be processed at one time happens the system will protect the brain from overloading by shutting down a piece - which if unaddressed can show itself as pulled muscles, illness, depression, etc. How much stress is too much depends on a person's lifestyle and therefore the ability of the nervous system to process.

The more clear the system is, the more it can process. Who we are and how our bodies are functioning is directly related to how we perceive stress and respond to it. Care and maintenance of this vital system is relatively easy - regular bodywork, prayer/meditation, exercise and limited chemical ingestion (processed foods, alcohol, pesticides, etc.) The quick and lasting effects of bodywork is easily understood after seeing the results from view of restoring nervous system response.

Live in Joy and Be Well with Massage!

New medical studies are proving more and more how massage is a powerful and important component in a healthcare regimen, in both emotional and physical benefits. Some specific benefits are listed below; of course the huge preventative benefit goes unmeasured. Imagine the enhanced ability of vibrant, fully circulating systems to fend off effects of pollution, stress, virus, injury, etc..

Consequently, receiving bodywork can do a world of good -- getting massage on a regular basis can do even more. This is the beauty of bodywork - participating in this form of consistent self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be, and how youthful you will feel and look as each year passes.

Some Specific Benefits Of Massage

What are the benefits of receiving bodywork treatments?

Here are a few:

• Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body’s natural defense system.
• Deep relaxation of body and mind.
• Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
• Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
• Alleviate neck, shoulder and back pain.
• Lowers high blood pressure.
• Improve range of motion.
• Ease medication dependence.
• Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.
• Improve the condition of the body’s largest organ—the skin.
• Increase joint flexibility.
• Lessen depression and anxiety.
• Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
• Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
• Reduce post surgery adhesions and swelling.
• Reduce spasms and cramping.
• Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
• Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller.
• Relieve headaches and migraine pain.

Wholeness is Key

So often our focus is on a specific area of body or condition and we lose sight of the fact that our body’s systems are interdependent parts of a whole being. Our natural state is one of health, and an illness or disease is an imbalance in the body's systems. When healing occurs in any area, other health problems improve without direct treatment due to improvement in the performance of the whole.

Just Do It!

There are many types of bodywork, and each bodyworker adds their own unique style. Each person’s preferences and lifestyle will help to identify the modalities that work best with their body. Find the one(s) that make your body hum and stick with it!
So often we are aware of an instinctual desire to take care of ourselves in some way – diet, exercise, quiet time, massage – and put it off because day to day details seem to be in the way. Just as the body heals itself as a whole, so does our life.
By keeping our self-commitment to good health and balance we find that the rest of our activities in life fall into a better flow as well.
Be well and Live in Joy!
